Switching to the Dark(er) Side

OK...I've succumbed to the dark side...

Besides breaking down and buying a Mac...I've now joined the ranks of My Space...

Sorry, Xanga friends...but after completely dropping the ball about a year ago...I'm thinking that a new perspective on things might get me back into gear. That's not to say that I still don't read my subscriptions here...I just will be posting anything new over there.

Well said, well said!

On Wednesday, March 1st, 2006, in Annapolis at a hearing on the proposed Constitutional Amendment to prohibit gay marriage, Jamie Raskin, professor of law at AU, was requested to testify.  At the end of his testimony, Republican Senator Nancy Jacobs said: "Mr. Raskin, my Bible says marriage is only between a man and a woman.  What do you have to say about that?"  Raskin replied: "Senator, when you took your oath of office, you placed your hand on the Bible and swore to uphold the Constitution. You did not place your hand on the Constitution and swear to uphold the Bible."  The room erupted into applause.

I CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE!

I keep meaning to get back on here and catch my friends up on all the major events of what's been going on in my life lately, but tonight I'm so agitated that I can't even begin on any of that yet.

First, I must vent.

Tonight I was watching an episode of "Super Nanny" and I'm about to explode!

Jo, our wonderful British nanny, has visited another family in dire need of help. This family consists of a father, mother and seven kids (2 of his, 2 of hers, 3 of theirs). The father is in the military and is away Monday through Friday and is only home on the weekends. He is also three weeks from being deployed to Iraq. This family was falling apart. Their needs were extremely great and life was going to go from bad to worse once dad left the country. I found myself crying through the set-up to this episode.

As members of our Republican-operated government love to criticize and point the finger at Hollywood for the corruption of our country. TV censorship is at its highest in YEARS. And tonight it hit me. Between shows like Super Nanny, Extreme Home Make Over, Miracle Workers, etc, etc. Hollywood is doing what our government wouldn't dream of doing...taking care of Americans IN NEED. Someone has to pick up the ball that is being dropped by our country's leaders who are too busy waging wars to keep our hold on oil supplies and doing what they can to pad their own pockets. Which one is being arrested or tried for corruption this week? Janet Jackson's wardrobe malfunction is much less corrupt than our Senator-scandle-of-the-week, but why aren't people screaming and yelling about this! These are the people the American public rushed to elect because of their strict adherence to "morality."

Morality is taking care of the citizens of this country the best way possible. We are pumping money in to rebuild Iraq while the poverty level in our own country continues to climb. Families in this country are falling through the cracks left and right. When able parents are willing to step in and adopt children in need of a loving family, these able and loving families are being rebuked because they don't fit mold some fundamentalist preacher has set forth as acceptable. IT IS SICKENING THAT THESE PEOPLE HAVE BEEN ALLOWED TO CONTINUE TO RUN THIS COUNTRY!

I would continue, but really, I think you get the point. I really can't take it anymore. My shoulders are clenching and pain is shooting up my neck. If I don't make myself calm down I won't be able to sleep tonight. Unfortunately, I don't see any real relief to this awful situation anytime in the near future. Our country's hatred of gays and abortion is so strong that they would rather flush the country down the toilet than see it's internal problems fixed.

AAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm almost caught back up with everything so that I can return to posting regularly. Last night I worked for several hours to update all of my finances on my computer from my last couple of months away. Since Steve was ever so kind to do laundry today on his day off. I might actually be able to sit down and relax when I'm at home now without feeling like there are things I need to catch up on staring me down.

More soon!
